Sleepy Toes

It's the sleepy toes that get me. They're just so...munchable.

Dialog:

[We are sitting at the table, eating dessert. Mother baked fresh brownies and served them with vanilla ice cream.]

Iain [coming out of the bedroom after the end of an episode of Busytown]: "Can I have more Busytown?"
Charles: "Come try this"
Iain: "Oh, ok."

[He eats all of Charles' dessert.]

Charles: "Iain, did you enjoy that brownie and ice cream?"
Iain: "Uh, huh."
Charles: "What do you say to Grammy?"

[Looong pause]

Iain [looking at his grandmother across the table]: "Can I have some of yours?"

Toes

So delicious. It's a lot harder to snorgle the toes now that they walk around. Gritty. But still...chomp!

New Jammies!

Fun: taking pictures of Iain.
More fun: pointing the camera at him, pressing the button, then showing him the result. What a ham!

But the real news around here is: Iain has new jammies. And not just any jammies. When I stopped at Kid-To-Kid Tuesday, I bought (in addition to 4 new pairs of pants for Mr. Grows-Without-Cease) a pair of flannel PJ's. Thomas the Tank Engine PJ's, to be precise.

Oh, it's just so exciting I must grab my toes. TOES!

Folly Beach

So...here's how daylight savings time works. Iain wakes up at 5:45. Except it's really 4:45. I take him in the kitchen, see that my mother is awake, drop him on her and sprint back to bed. Whee!!

Later, when it's 7:45 (6:45), we drove out to Folly Beach, which would normally be ucky on a holiday weekend, but since it's the crack of dawn, all the people who partied last night are busy sleeping it off.

This was Iain's first trip to any beach, and his first experience of lots of sand. He was undecided. The dry sand was ok, the wet sand was NOT, the surf was NOT, but the sea gulls were nice. "FlyFly" he said to them, and then "bye."

He walked all the way back from the surfline to the street by himself, learning to deal with the sand, which is fine but quite smooshy. So every step your ankles have to help you re-balance. That's good training, I figure, for a boy learning to walk with confidence.

Closeup: toes in sand. Delicious.

Toes with Moss

Iain is unsure about the patio pavers. Kind of rough, he thinks.

But the moss is simply fascinating...

Do you have to "toddle" to be a toddler?

Iain is not yet walking. He stands, occasionally he "cruises," but he's not walking. That's fine.

But he's transitioned to one nap per day, he's eating table food, he's saying a few words ("Dad," "Teddy," and "Nana" for banana), and he's beginning to be picky.

So can you be a toddler before you toddle?

Genius! And Toes.

Those Bizzles. They know things. Take, for example, Iain's birthday present. It's a truck, and it beeps, and it holds blocks, and it's generally fun and useful.

But this afternoon I discovered that it can be used with your foot:

Above, baby on seat, pressing buttons and making ignition noises and backup beeping noises and failing starter noises, while Mama pushes him gently back and forth with her left foot. It's like a return to the days when he slept in his carseat and we could rock him back and forth in the stroller.

That ear looks pretty tasty, huh? Perhaps just a little nibble.

Oh, and the toes beckon, too. Here, little toes. Come here. Mama needs to see if you're as adorable as you look.

Close up!

Eatings! Oops - I mean Outings

Last night, I had dinner with my Number 1 Girlfriend: Callie. For me, it was a night of discovery. Pancakes! Green Beans! Corn Oysters! Mac-n-Cheese!

For Callie, it was no less a night of firsts. Or at least, a night to unleash the inner glutton. Above, she learns that there are 2 rules of bacon:
1. Everything tastes better with bacon.
2. You can never have too much bacon.
[Technically, the First Rule of Bacon is: we don't talk about Bacon.]

Although it's cold today, this promises (at last!) (no, really, this time it's for real!) (seriously, it better be) to be the last gasp of winter. Spring made an appearance earlier this week and I replied by stripping off my socks and embracing the Naked Stroll. Worship my toes. Do it. Do. It.

Rack of Toes

So tasty with ketchup, divine with Bearnaise, scrumptious with fish sauce, but best of all with just a dash of salsa.

Toes

Who's got the toe fetish now? That's right: Grandmother.
