Hey...What's That?

What's that silver thing you've got? It clicks! What is it? Can I see it? Can I touch it?
I just want to look at it up close. I'll be careful, really. No, really.

Nom, nom NOM!

You just can't trust Iain with a camera.

New Toy

Remember the video from earlier in the week? Iain liked Charles's red Ferrari. His toy Ferrari, I should say. But that toy is made of metal, has working doors and a hood that opens. Charles was a wee bit concerned that it might poke Iain's eye out or something. And if thrown, that thing could really whack the TV or the floor.
.
So we went hunting for a rolling toy that would be more baby-appropriate. And this is what I settled on, through Amazon.com:
.
I figured, looking at the photograph, that it was about the size of a grapefruit.
.
.
Well...no. This is how big it is:
.

But it's interesting. There is a ball on the inside, so when Iain rolls it the toy makes a satisfying clicking noise. You can see the other Plan toy we have (a gift) above. In both cases, Iain was less interested in the noises than in the flavors.

.

.
Nom, nom, nom.

Gardening

Here, Bobo models my swiss chard. It's really growing now that the temperature is slightly less than that of the surface of the sun. If we could get some rain - that would be heaven.

But more importantly: look what I found! I've been looking for this succulent, called "String of Pearls," since we left California. It grows in long ropes, and if you plant it as the base under something like a jade plant, it will literally spill out the sides like a necklace. Meanwhile, being a succulent, it requires exactly zero care. No water? No pruning? No fertilizer? No problem! This is the perfect plant for me.

I'm going to love it and squeeze it and call it George.

I Figured It Out!

Q: Why are children afraid of the dark?
.
A: Because while they're babies, we sneak in while they're sleeping and "check on them."
.
It's so obvious to me now. I can't go to bed without making sure Iain's ok. Every night I open the door quietly, tip-toe over to his crib, and lean down. I listen for his breathing, put my hand on his back, and occasionally discover that I've managed to stick my finger up his nose or something. I try to avoid that, but hey - it's dark!
.
I am the Boogie Monster.

Side Effects of the Stuff Him Like a Tick Plan

28 inches long.

16.4 pounds.

New carseat ordered. Old carseat will self-destruct at 29 inches.

I Bet He Didn't See That Coming...

This morning, Iain woke at 7, but didn't feel he needed to go back to sleep. At all. Until 9:45.

Mommy was not pleased.

Because we were up so early without the usual after Breakfast #1 nap (usually, he wakes at 6:30 or so, then sleeps again until 8-9, then he's up for the day), Mommy just threw on some pajamas and a sweatshirt and put her hair in a pony-tail.

That extremely handsome outfit persisted even when Iain did, finally, go down for his nap. And Mommy was still wearing it when he woke up, when he ate his Second Breakfast (milk plus rice cereal), and when the doorbell rang.

It was a representative of the Jehovah's Witnesses. A nice young man in a suit and tie with a briefcase and a handful of Watchtower magazines. Mommy opened the door with Iain in her arms and he seemed taken aback. He stammered, "You seem like you've got your hands full, so I'll justgiveyoutheseokbye!"

What was that all about?

Oh, yeah. Probably it was because just as Mommy opened the door, Iain performed a slow-motion vomit down the front of his outfit. So poor young Mr. Watchtower saw Mommy in her jammies, Iain with white goo running out of his mouth and down his chest across the handsome striped onesie and pants he was wearing.

No wonder he ran.

Doh!
