This is the Place

So we're moving. The house went on the market yesterday, and already we're complete stress monkeys. At bedtime, Charles said to me "It's been 6 hours and the house hasn't sold. What will we do?!?" Indeed.

But we're moving forward, trying to keep the place in shape, keep our heads on straight, and keep ticking off things on the To-Do list. The most pressing concern of the moment is how we'll manage the timing of the move, what with the sale of one house and the purchase of another on the other side of the country.

I remind myself, though, that I'm not the first. In fact, the people who settled the city where we're moving...let's just say they had quite a trip. Across the Mississippi after their neighbors attacked them, a winter spent in Iowa (enough said), and a walk across the Plains, through the mountains, and finally into a desert valley with seagulls.

The monument above commemorates that journey. Ten years ago, I wrote a graduate essay about it. And six months from now, we'll live 10 minutes from it. Go figure.

What a remarkable life you are living. And Iain will grow up with such riches in experience and adventure.

I recommend laundry baskets - handy to sweep stuff off counters, grabbing stuff from the floor, and stashing away somewhere before perspective buyers come through the door.

Your new location looks wonderful but...we are certainly sorry to see you move away from Kentucky!
