Over at Chocolate, Vanilla, and Caramel, things are - in general - going swimmingly. But Monday was not the best day ever. In fact, it was pretty bad. In writing about it, Kristen pointed out the tendency of blogs to emphasize the positive. In an effort to protect our privacy, avoid harsh criticism, and otherwise smile through our struggles, we often write only about things that go well.
When I saw the illustration above, from March of 1873, I thought: exactly! And it's not just the difference between a wedding day and parenting (and not just for women, either). It's good days vs. hard days, reality vs. fantasy, tedium vs. celebration.
At least we know we're not the first to face this problem. Clearly, daily life in 1873 wasn't all that romantic, either.
